Blog: Vegan food around the world
There’s been a lot of buzz surrounding our need to reduce our usage of animal products and it’s truly been heart-warming to see so many people advocate for this cause. It seems as though 2018 is the year of the vegan movement!
It’s important to recognize the true movers and shakers who play monumental roles. For that reason, we wanted to give a special shout-out to cities around the world who are becoming leaders in revolutionizing the food industry and growing the veg*an movement from the inside out.
Melbourne
It’s the second most populated city in Australia and well-known as a worldwide food destination, so it shouldn’t be any surprise that it’s becoming the third fastest-growing vegan market in the world. In this city you’ll find the first all-natural vegan vending machine, upscale restaurants and dessert bars.
Los Angeles
This city quickly jumps on trends in general, but it’s also the home of many notable veg*an celebrities like Alicia Silverstone, Miley Cyrus and Ellen DeGeneres to name a few. You won’t run out of options here, as according to HappyCow, there’s currently 72+ fully-vegan and 243 veg-friendly restaurants to choose from.
Taipei
With most restaurants specializing in Chinese or Taiwanese cuisine, there are a myriad of veg*an options on every street corner. With choices ranging from mock meats, buffets, fine dining and even desserts this is a great place to experiment and try new things!
Tel Aviv
Israel has recently become the most vegan nation per capita, with 5% of its whole population adopting a plant-based diet. The restaurants here have created a unique take on Middle Eastern style foods. My personal favourite is Zakaim, where they’ve transformed traditional Persian delicacies to be entirely vegan (and delicious!). If you’re ever in the neighborhood, I highly recommend it!
Berlin
This city is likely becoming the hub of the cruelty-free movement. It even has a dedicated street (Warschauer Straße) where you can find vegan shoes, clothing and food, all in one place! Make sure to stop by to one of the rare cities where McDonald’s offers veggie options and HappyCow lists over 300 veg*an friendly locations.

Singapore
This island may be small, but it has more veg*an friendly eating options than any other city in the world. Even the airport has more veg*an options than some cities!
London
PETA once designated this city as the most vegetarian city in the world. Here, you’ll find some of the best vegan innovations, including some of the best fried chicken and even a vegan tattoo parlour! London is the city to savour cuisines from every corner of the planet thanks to its multi-culturalism and veg*an friendliness.
Vancouver
It almost made its way into HappyCow’s top 15 cities with the most veg-friendly listings. Voted in the top most livable cities in the world, it’s a great place to find all kinds of veg*an eateries like a one-of-a-kind vegan butcher but also vegan fashion accessories.
Austin, Texas
I can sense the raised eyebrows on this one, but it seems as though the birthplace of Whole Foods has a lot to offer to the veg*an community. Thanks to a thriving food truck culture, this city is likely one of the best to try “brisket”, “ribs” and “mac n’ cheese”.
